Presentation:

The demyelinating diseases unit is faced daily with ever more complex diagnosis and treatments for patients with multiple sclerosis or with other autoimmune demyelinating diseases (where the myelin sheath covering the neurons is destroyed by the bodies own defences attacking it)

In the unit, there are Neurologists and an experienced team of nurses caring for these patients, who apply standard medical protocols and nursing practises. Also working there are a interdisciplinary team of specialists trained in both diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of the medical complications associated with these diseases. Also, there is a neurorehabilitation team, consisting of specialists in rehabilitation, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists.

In general, the goal of the unit is to share specialist medical treatments for multiple sclerosis and similar diseases by using a multidisciplinary approach. We are trying to increase the capabilities, participation and self-sufficiency of patients to improve their independence and quality of life.
