What is?

It is the assessment that a medical professional (who is not their responsible doctor) makes of a patient, through the review of their medical documentation, to contrast a diagnosis or a treatment in certain circumstances of special gravity.

It is different than a referral or a change of doctor and is limited to specific cases, that is, to specific diagnoses or prescriptions of treatments.

In Catalonia, the right to have a second medical opinion is regulated by Decree 125/2007, of June 2007. You can consult the details on the CatSalut website.

The resolution

• If the second medical opinion confirms the first diagnosis or treatment, you will continue to be treated at the initial center.

• If the second medical opinion changes, you can be treated at the center that issued the second opinion, if you so decide
